a blue bird in our yard

so, there was a blue bird in our yard this morning.... mostly because i put it there! jason calls his classic 1984 ford f-150 the "blue goose".... he's driven it ever since we started dating, and i love RIDING in it... yes, riding, not DRIVING. however, now that he's taking classes "down the mountain" i've had to learn how to fly the blue goose. i joke around and call it the blue bird because that automatically strips it of any masculinity. well.. maybe not automaticly... it is a straight drive after all.

well, it's been an adventure learning how to drive the blue goose. after successfully completing 1.5 days of official, husband lead-training, i passed with few enough chokes and stall outs to earn the right to drive the 2.5 miles to work and back everyday... on the dirt road, not the main road. thank goodness for a short commute! well, monday was successful. i only ALMOST stalled out on my way to work, with only one person dangerously close behind me. on the way home, i had a friend follow me, so i could master "the hill" - aka the 3 way stop sign that intimedates the doo doo out of me for fear of rolling backwards. well, i rolled backwards - a fir piece too, but thankfully i'd warned my friend enough to have her stop about 200 feet behind me, preventing other unknowing drivers from stopping too close, and preventing her own vehicle from being front-ended.

so, with day one complete, and my confidence level slightly raising, i took on tuesday! a much icer day, but i allowed for plenty of time to get to work... well... as you can see in the picture above, taken at 8:11 this morning (yes, i'm supposed to be at work at 8:00), THIS is how far i made it to work today. day two = not a success. i cheerfully sent jason a text message telling him that our lovely blue bird was pirched in the front yard for when he arrived home, and that i'd caught a ride to and from work with a friend! now, please know, it was very humorus, the whole rolling forward from the driveway into the front yard thing, and not being able to move... i am so thankful that at this point in life, i can laugh at myself more than ever before so, in sumary, i've had a 50% success rate, and i'm not yet allowed to drive "in public" - so, no groceries runs until this scenario improves! maybe i can borrow my grandmas car. she only drove 18 miles TOTAL last year - on the same take of gas!

Well, my Gina Beana, I give you an A+ for effort in attempting to take on the blue goose in all its glory. I always knew you were adventurous and this confirms it!
Although thinking about Grandma's car is not a bad thought, you would have to weigh out riding on dry-rotted tires vs using a clutch in the ice...not sure which is worse!
Way to go Gina! I look forward to more updates. This is great!
